First In Person Date

On Saturday, I had my first date with one of these online guys. Well, technically not my first online date, but my first one in several years. We chatted a couple times over e-mail and we talked on the phone once, to arrange a date and time. Then, it was all downhill from there.

So I was to meet Zit Picker (is the suspense killing you as to why I call him that?!?!?!) at a restaurant at 1:00 on Saturday for lunch in downtown Royal Oak. Of course, this was the Saturday that it was pouring, so I was not pleased about having to walk in the rain in the first place. Then, at 12:55, I was in the parking structure and he called me and said that he was running 10 or 15 minutes late. **Way to make a first impression!** (Sidebar: I am not a timely person, my parents will tell me to be at their house 15 minutes earlier than I need to be sometimes depending on how important it is that we leave on time or not, but when I am meeting someone for the first time, I will make an EXTRA effort to be on time!!) So I went to the restaurant and I grabbed a table. He ended up being about 15 minutes late. Of course, the second he sat down, the waitress came over to get our order and he hadn't even looked at the menu yet, so we weren't ready. So we started chatting a little bit. While we were chatting, he picked a zit on his chin and it started bleeding. Then I was in an awkward position, do I tell him, do I ignore it? Surely he must have realized that he had done it. But no, he decided to ignore it. Of course, that was all that I could look at while he was talking, after all his chin, like most people's is near his mouth, so that was my focal point. And then it just got worse. He was boring and didn't really have anything interesting to say. And Zit Picker wasn't very good looking either. But I was thinking, I shouldn't be shallow and only go for cute guys, I should give the average ones a chance.

Then, when the check came, I excused myself to go to the restroom and I texted one of my friends telling her that it was painful. And when I came back, Zit Picker had paid the check. Now that might be rude that I made him pay, but he was the one that asked me out and doesn't the new etiquette say that whoever does the asking, does the paying? Then since we had parked in the same parking structure, he walked me to my car. This is where it got even worse. He said that he had a nice time and asked me if I did. Of course I had to say yes to his face! Then he asked me if I wanted to go out again and I had to say yes again. Then he gave me this weird half hug thing, I tried to make it quick. I made a mental note that I was going to have to e-mail and tell him that it's not going to work out.

To make matters worse, on Sunday morning, Zit Picker sent me an e-mail saying that he had a great time and was really looking forward to going out with me again. Argh. So now I have to write that e-mail, shooting him down.

Here's to hoping that these dates get better!!
