Progress, kind of

So there is some progress being made in the online dating world. I am finally corresponding with several guys. A couple I think could be promising. I know that the first time that I meet with them it will be for coffee or a drink though. I don't want a repeat of Zit Picker! Nothing new to report, but I will post once there is something exciting to write about.

Sorry, I was on vacation

I was on vacation for a few days, which turned into a couple weeks away from the blog, but lucky for you.... I'm back!

So here's what's been happening lately. I dropped my membership from the free site. It was nothing but losers and people that didn't want to pay for anything. There was even one guy that flat out said on his profile that he was looking for a one night stand or more often! So for now I am sticking to the paid site.

There is a new guy that I was talking to before I went on vacation. He asked for my number before I left, so I gave it to him and told him to text me or call me while I was gone. So he texted me a few times. Then, when I was back in town, I texted him to let him know that I was back and then I never heard from him. This past Saturday, I was at the bar with the girls and I decided to text him to see what was going on.

This guy, I'll call him Nurseboy, he's 30 and he's a nurse. It's his second career, I don't remember what his first career was, but he was worried when the economy started tanking a few years ago, so he went back to school to get his nursing degree. Ok, I'm thinking that's really smart, he must have a good head on his shoulders. And in his profile he said that he was looking for a relationship, gives his all to his girlfriend, you know... blah blah blah, all the stuff that you want to hear from a guy.

So we're texting on Saturday and he tells me that he's at work. Then he told me that I have sexy lips. I said thanks. Then he texted me a video of his penis! I was shocked, for a couple reasons. One - I can't believe that he actually sent it, and two - he was at work, which means that the video was already on his phone, that's a little scary! So then a little while later he said that I needed to send him a sexy pic. Um, I don't think so! I do not want pics of me floating around anywhere. Then at 3:00am, he sent me "u suck". I am assuming this is because I didn't send him a "sexy pic"! So I ignored him. Then on Sunday afternoon he texted asking if I was hungover. I ignored that as well. Then Sunday night again, "u must be really hungover". Um, no, Nurseboy, I am ignoring you! Then Monday night at 12:15 (so technically Tuesday morning) he texted me asking if I was not talking to him anymore. Ya think! I haven't heard from him since then, so I guess that he finally gave up. But really, what was this guy thinking? It sounds to me like he only wanted to hook up. I do have only one word to say if that really was his penis - WOW!

First In Person Date

On Saturday, I had my first date with one of these online guys. Well, technically not my first online date, but my first one in several years. We chatted a couple times over e-mail and we talked on the phone once, to arrange a date and time. Then, it was all downhill from there.

So I was to meet Zit Picker (is the suspense killing you as to why I call him that?!?!?!) at a restaurant at 1:00 on Saturday for lunch in downtown Royal Oak. Of course, this was the Saturday that it was pouring, so I was not pleased about having to walk in the rain in the first place. Then, at 12:55, I was in the parking structure and he called me and said that he was running 10 or 15 minutes late. **Way to make a first impression!** (Sidebar: I am not a timely person, my parents will tell me to be at their house 15 minutes earlier than I need to be sometimes depending on how important it is that we leave on time or not, but when I am meeting someone for the first time, I will make an EXTRA effort to be on time!!) So I went to the restaurant and I grabbed a table. He ended up being about 15 minutes late. Of course, the second he sat down, the waitress came over to get our order and he hadn't even looked at the menu yet, so we weren't ready. So we started chatting a little bit. While we were chatting, he picked a zit on his chin and it started bleeding. Then I was in an awkward position, do I tell him, do I ignore it? Surely he must have realized that he had done it. But no, he decided to ignore it. Of course, that was all that I could look at while he was talking, after all his chin, like most people's is near his mouth, so that was my focal point. And then it just got worse. He was boring and didn't really have anything interesting to say. And Zit Picker wasn't very good looking either. But I was thinking, I shouldn't be shallow and only go for cute guys, I should give the average ones a chance.

Then, when the check came, I excused myself to go to the restroom and I texted one of my friends telling her that it was painful. And when I came back, Zit Picker had paid the check. Now that might be rude that I made him pay, but he was the one that asked me out and doesn't the new etiquette say that whoever does the asking, does the paying? Then since we had parked in the same parking structure, he walked me to my car. This is where it got even worse. He said that he had a nice time and asked me if I did. Of course I had to say yes to his face! Then he asked me if I wanted to go out again and I had to say yes again. Then he gave me this weird half hug thing, I tried to make it quick. I made a mental note that I was going to have to e-mail and tell him that it's not going to work out.

To make matters worse, on Sunday morning, Zit Picker sent me an e-mail saying that he had a great time and was really looking forward to going out with me again. Argh. So now I have to write that e-mail, shooting him down.

Here's to hoping that these dates get better!!

Nothing exciting going on

Not much new to report. I am communicating with about 3 different guys on the paid site. The free site is worthless. I could keep posting funny profiles or poorly written e-mails. But that could get boring.

I hope that something exciting will happen soon. I would like to go speed dating again, but the company that I want to use doesn't have any new events coming up. I have been a couple times and it is pretty fun. Keep your fingers crossed that something will come up soon!

Nothing else to report other than that after Friday, I am on vacation for 10 days - yahoo!!

A great blog to check out!

So, my good friend Karyn Bosnak (she's not really my friend, but I have read her books and I read her blog, so I feel like she's my friend) just suggested a blog that is frickin' hilarious! The address is:

It has craig's list job postings that are completely unbelievable. The things that people put in these ads are really funny. So check it out, it will make you LOL!

I need a little help.

So here's the part about online dating that I find difficult. I never really know what to say in the initial message to a guy. I want to say something clever and cute, but I can never seem to think of anything. So it's usually pretty generic, something like Hey, how are you? Did you have a great weekend or have any big plans for the weekend (depending on the day of the week). Then I might say what I did or what my plans are and then I will say to have a great day, talk to you soon. I know it's not the greatest plan in the world, but I also don't want to write a novel, what if he never writes back, then I would have wasted my time. But I also don't want to write a canned message that I send to everyone.

Any thoughts on clever and/or unique ways to send a message to a potential date?

Here's Some More Funny Profiles

Ok, I really can't resist posting these. Of course, they are from the free site, I am beginning to think that Mr. Right is not on the free site. Again, the capitalization and spelling belong to the writer, I had nothing to do with it!

  • i would like to consider my self as a easy going person i am not into the bar seen or there is no time...
  • well i been online for a couple of weeks now and im learning that im not going to find that speical person with only my looks. So I decided to write alittle about myself and alittle about who I would like to meet. So let me start off by saying ,if you are looking for someone to sweep you off you feet by there writing skills.Im probly not the guy for you.
  • I lookin for family women who to care strong morales ,who makes ,me melt evry time .I wont to meet sameone who,s not afraid to love truly.
  • Then there's guy with the screen name rikosauve and there's also horneydude
Ok, I think that's enough for now. I really should stop making fun of these guys, it's putting negative energy out in the universe and I don't need that!!

Ok, this might be a bit mean, but it's funny

Here's a few lines from some profiles that I have read, do people know how to proof-read? I have not changed anything, it's exactly how they were written - I swear!!

  • i work m-f 12yrs a day like to take a ride on my bike say mom see a movie watch nascar go camping attnd church
  • hi i m mark and im a very nice and out going and very sweet and generous and i looking for a nice girl that is...
  • i'm sick of the bar scene and all the bs that comes with it i would like to fine someone who's open honest and...
  • i'm looking for an angel with a broken wing so i can help her fly again
Seriously, none of these people use capitalization. Is it because people are so used to texting now, that they don't know how to type properly. Or do I just have a hang up about grammar and proper English?

Things that make you go hmmmm....

The free online site is interesting. There is no way to search other than by zip code, so I get quite a few guys that I'm not too interested in. So I'm looking online today and I see this guy "Mrclean" (yes he's bald) and so I flirt with him - which is sending a pre-typed message - mine was "Hey There". Then he flirted back. So I decided to send him an e-mail, just saying something along the lines of Hey, how are you? Then he wrote back, "sorry allergic to cats and no job...lol"

Does this guy really think that he's gonna find himself a woman without a job. Now I know that the economy sucks and all, but maybe he should be taking the time that he is scoping out girls online to be scoping out jobs online? Just a thought. I really don't think that my standards are too high in requesting that a guy has a job, right? I'm not gonna support his ass!

Really?

So I just got a "wink" on the free online site from a guy named huggybear! Really?!?! Does he think that it's cute? In my opinion, it's kinda dumb!

I'm Back! For real this time...

Hello to the 4 or 5 people that read my blog. I am trying to get back into writing and so I am going to try SUPER hard to keep up with my blog on a more regular basis.

So I have decided that I am bored with sitting on the couch being a bum waiting for Prince Charming to stop by. I have decided that I am going to be proactive in my search for Mr. Right. I have joined a couple online dating sites, one that you have to pay for and the other is free and I am also going to join a local Meet Up group for singles. The first event that I am going to attend is next Friday. It's a Happy Hour at a bar that is supposed to have great drinks and appetizers. So we'll see what happens with all of that. I figure that I will have a lot to write about since I will be meeting a lot of guys. Some good and I am sure that there will be some not so good out there.

I will try to also put some interesting not just dating stuff cuz I don't want you to get bored with my social life :)

If anyone has some suggestions as to where I can meet a great guy, let me know. Besides the grocery store, hardware store, those kinds of places. I was thinking about taking a cooking class, because this girl cannot cook, but would there be guys that would take a cooking class? I guess even if I don't meet a guy, I would learn a skill that would help me in meeting a guy. So there's one way to look at it!

Well, I guess that there's not too much else to write about, since I just started. So until next time, which may even be tomorrow!

Sorry that I Suck!

I really keep meaning to write, but then when I sit down to write, I get writer's block!!

So here's what's new with me.... I have been doing good with part of my New Year's Resolutions, I have not had Starbucks since 2008 - which is a huge major accomplishment for me!  I have also been pretty good about not buying as much stuff, too.  I have only bought a couple of books and some clothes, but I really haven't gone overboard.  Well, I did buy a stove, but I have been wanting that for awhile and I did pay off my furniture, so I can justify it!

Here's my new thing that I am starting tomorrow.  Oprah (my hero) has a challenge that she put out to her audience to not eat out for an entire month!  I don't think that I even have ever gone a week without eating out.  I am sure that the last time this happened was when I was still on the bottle!!  So I went to the grocery store tonight and bought a bunch of stuff.  I have a TON of food in my cupboards and I really never eat it!  So I am trying this challenge and I will see how it goes.  I am also guilty of throwing food away because it goes bad before I eat it (I can see my mom's face as she is reading this!).  So I am going to eat the food that I bought - what a concept!

I just read an awesome book!  I read Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult.  It's her newest book. I just came out this past Tuesday.  I finished it on Friday night.  It was very good.  It's about a little girl with Osteogenesis Imperfecta which is the brittle bone disease where bones break very easily.  It was a good read and of course, she has a twist at the end.  Now the next book that I am looking forward to is Jen Lancaster's new one, Pretty in Plaid.  It's about her time in college when she was in a sorority, I think that I am going to really like this one. And the best part about it is that she is coming here for a book signing!  I might even take the day off work to be there!  I almost got to see her when I was in Chicago a couple years ago, but my mom and I had tickets to Wicked the same night that she was at Border's.  So now, I will see her for sure!!

Until the next time...

Resolutions

Holy Smokes!  It's been over a month since I have written again.  I really have good intentions, but they seem to fall by the wayside.  So here are my new year's resolutions and things that I am going to improve in my life.

1.  I will be at a healthy weight.  So here's my problem, I have a gained a few pounds over the past couple years.  I tried to lose it before my sister's wedding, and it didn't really happen to the extent that I wanted it to.  So then in July, I joined Weight Watchers, which is really the best program out there.  But I have been doing it half-assed!  So I am pretending to do WW.  I have gained and lost the same couple pounds since July - and yes to answer your question, I have been paying the entire time!!  So I need to just get in gear and do it.  I did lose a pound over Christmas - who knows how that happened.  But I am going to the grocery store today to buy my healthy things that I need to eat and I need to also prepare the night before.

2. Cut back on the Starbucks - I believe that Starbucks was a direct factor in some of my weight gain.  Darn yummy Chais!  I have not had it yet this year - which yes has only been 4 days, but that is an accomplishment.  I just got a super fancy new coffee maker and I am going to make my own coffee in the morning and it will be way cheaper than the 'Bucks!

3. Cut back on spending.  I like to think that money grows on trees, or at least for me.  I was at the movies the other day ("Marley and Me" - very cute) and we saw a preview for "Shopaholic" and my mom turned and looked at me and asked if that was my story.  Ha ha, but yeah, I could probably be in a story similar to that.  So I am going to seriously cut back and I am going to start selling some stuff on eBay.  This also includes books.  I have so many books and yet, I keep buying more.  I am going to allow myself to buy Jodi Picoult's book (March) and Jen Lancaster's book (May) and that is it!!  Once I get everything read that I have, I may even venture to the library - what a concept!!

So those are my resolutions that I have so far.  Here a couple things that I am looking forward to - the new season of Nip/Tuck starts on Tuesday.  I can't wait - it is a great show - I watched the first 4 seasons on dvd over a couple weeks and then the first half of season 5 I recorded and watched.  If you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out!  I am glad that some of the other shows are coming back right away.

One of my new favorite authors in Kristen Hannah.  I read Firefly Lane in just a couple days and there wasn't anything that stood out about the story, it's just about 2 friends from the age of 12 as they grow up and become adults.  It was just a good, well-written story.  I am currently reading Magic Hour also by Hannah.  It is good so far, I am only a few chapters into it.  I also want to read the Sookie Stackhouse books (which I have),the HBO series True Blood was based on and then I want to see the series when it comes out on DVD.

Well, I suppose that is enough babbling for now.  I guess that my fourth resolution is to try to update more!!
